Fractal Fern by David Nicholls
Fractal Fern

The San Diego Fern Society

The San Diego Fern Society (SDFS) was established in October 1976 with a charter membership of 15 fern enthusiasts. The society's purpose was to provide a resource for ferns, arrange for people to study ferns together, and encourage the use and enjoyment of ferns in gardens, patios, and the home. The purpose of this site is to encourage access to sources for studying, collecting, buying, and growing ferns. In 2002, the SDFS had has over 90 members, making it one of the largest fern groups in the United States.

The SDFS has a monthly program on fern-related topics in room 101, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park San Diego. The society also publishes a monthly newsletter with information on SDFS activities, fern-related articles, and book reviews.

The SDFS holds an annual show and sale on the third weekend in August, offering the public an opportunity to view and purchase ferns, including rare and unusual species.
